Why companies must adopt the open source way

22 June 2012

Dries Buytaert (founder of Drupal) has written a 'viewpoint article' for the BBC Business section. It's a biased article but it's interesting on several levels nonetheless - not least that it's Drupal the BBC Business section invited to write the article (as opposed to WordPress; Concrete5; Joomla; SilverLight etc).

Highlights include:

  • 61% of the world's top 10,000 sites on the web are served by open source projects

  • Drupal now powers over a million websites of all kinds across the globe

Both are numbers that have a certain momentum behind them plus the fact that the founder of an open source platform gets to self-author an article on the BBC site, business section, is interesting in itself
